Nollaí

Nollaig (or Nolliaí for short) is just a regular, run-of-the-mill deer. A little tall for a deer, right enough, but he’s always been told he’s big boned. He’s definitely just a regular ol’ deer though. He’s been living the life on the farm with his human family, best friend/sister Sadhbh, and Dad. That is, until he finds out he’s actually a giant deer - AKA Megaloceros giganteus - and should almost certainly be extinct.

It does explain a lot though. Like how Nollaí’s antlers mean he can never quite fit through the barn door without tilting his head, or how he’s only ten years old and already as tall as Dad’s tractor. Once the truth sinks in, Nollaí’s head fills with questions. Where did he come from? Does he have an giant deer mum or dad, or maybe even a little calf brother somewhere out there?

On this journey of discovery, Nollaí comes to realise that while trying to find his giant deer family, he was forgetting about Sadhbh and Dad - the family that found him.
